Free Video Editor For .MOV Videos?

What is the best video format to upload to YouTube (AVI, MPG, WMV, or MOV)?

  • I want my 720p HD videos I post on YouTube to look their best so which is the best format I should save them as when I edit them? I have a Nikon camera that creates .MOV video files and I edit them using AVS Video Editor and the four choices I have to save the video as are AVI, MPG, WMV, and MOV. Not really understanding the differences in the formats, the only thing I go by is the resulting file size. Meaning, to me the bigger the file, the better the video quality. Does that make sense? I know YouTube converts all videos to the flash format (FLV, I think?) but wouldn't it make a big difference if the file already is at it's best possible quality before uploading for the flash conversion to be at its best? Please help me make sense of this. Thank you in advance.

According to YouTube’s handbook, YouTube can accept almost any video format for upload, but the following settings give the best results. * Video Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred * Aspect Ratio: Native aspect ratio without letterboxing (examples: 4:3, 16:9) * Resolution: 640×360 (16:9) or 480×360 (4:3) recommended * Audio Format: MP3 or AAC preferred * Frames per second: 30 * Maximum length: 10 minut

Folks, after someone provides a definitive answer – in this case, Steve – piling on more "best" video formats just puts the person asking the quesiton – in this case Larry – right back where they started.
