Kristi yamaguchi or michelle kwan?

Both are/were very talented skaters. Plus, they were from slightly different skating eras, so it's difficult to compare them. Personally, I prefer Yamaguchi. She was slightly better technically, and Michelle, while she had lovely artistry, was also always rather overhyped.

I would say Kristi Yamaguchi. Kristi was a very technically sound skater, consistently performing 3lutz-3toe combos. Her jumps weren't big but they were competent. However, it was during the time of Midori Ito and Tonya Harding and the 3axel. So, she was often portrayed as being technically weaker while in reality if she competed with the field today, she could whip their butts. Her artistry, spins, etc. were all very good as well. I think Michelle's artistry, presentation and consistency were overall better. Technically, she was more conservative, although she had more hype and longevity. Kristi wasn't as dominating because initially she did pairs, too. Her career really took off after she started concentrating only on singles.
