What is guerrilla marketing?

What part of guerrilla warfare did guerrilla marketing stem from?

  • Answer:

Hi it is not the part but the whole concept. yes in terms of warfare it was about hide, quick attack and get away often by a few and without engaging in huge numbers/battles. so the term when used in marketing means doing the same thing ie sneaking up and getting a message etc out catching the 'target' unawares. the term is often used to describe in a derogatory way some activity a competitor has done. as in " sure it worked but they used guerrilla marketing"

In addition to the tactical moves, it can also be on the size of the organization. Regular marketing campaigns employ bigger number of people and paraphernalia (signage, brochures, pamphlets, giveaways, etc.) while guerilla marketing can achieve relative success with much lesser number of people with same number of paraphernalia.

I don't think it stems from anything to do with warfare. More like - you do not follow the rules. You use small tactics to overwhelm larger opponents. In guerilla marketing this means making sites that are not your own, but hosted on free blog sites in one example. The little guys fight back using methods that the big guys wouldn't waste their time doing. It's all about scope.
