How can I prepare myself for the SAT?

How can I prepare for the SAT 2012?

  • I'm a junior and I'm nervous about taking this years SAT's, but I will. I'm okay in math, but I'm certain that I'd have to review some Geometry and I had a hard time with Algebra 2. Also I find it difficult to answer to the reading section because (from past experiences on PSATs and ACTs) they don't give enough time. Some of my friends took it and made 1400s and I'd like to do better. What's an average score for the SAT and what type of math should I give more attention to?

  • Answer:

well, the average, you can google it to find a more accurate answer, but I think it's around the 1500s. Also, for the SAT Math, it really doesn't test Alg. II, if so, only like 1-2 questions on it. Mainly basic math, algebra and geometry. For reading, I would suggest studying vocab and actually understanding it, studying roots helps too and as for long passages (short ones too) read the questions first and see what they're asking for so you know what to look for when you read the passage. Don't just read the passage thinking you're going to remember everything. For example, if a questions asks for something from lines 5-12, read like from the beginning to sentence 15, or whatever paragraph it's in; answer questions as you read. That way, if you don't happen to finish, you'll only have like 2-4 questions left and a little bit left to read. For writing, they typically test the same types of questions over and over again, i.e. subject-verb agreement, misplaced modifiers. Just check out an SAT book from the library and study the explanations and types of questions.
