What would I need to move to France?
-
I am about to graduate from high school in 2 months and I want to go to live in France. After I graduate I will be doing a 4 year college, while I work for those 4 years saving money. I just want to know what I need to do to move to France. Like I know i must get a visa, but what else. I am also learning French right now.

Answer:
I notice that you live in lovely Mont Dora. I live in the same area. You can visit France for a maximum of 90 days with only a valid USA passport. To live and work there is much more complicated and the law is somewhat similar to getting a Green Card in the USA. Only people from the European Union can just move to France to live or work there. There are many study or study and work programs that you may look into. You might want to call the French consulate in Florida for very good information. Their phone is: 305-403-4150. Good luck

As Reinaldo said moving to France is not an easy venture. As for finding work there it is right now very difficult for the French, we have 9% unemployment with the younger generation being the hardest hit, and there's a law stating that a job has to be given first to Europeans and then only if you can't find anyone can it be offered to non European. And you can't get a work visa without first having found a job. Finding a job without any degree and with no fluency in French means a very badly paid job where you will be able to pay for your daily expenses but won't be able to put any money aside.

You cannot just up and move to any EU country if you are not an EU national. If you want to study in France, you would first have to apply to the universities there, and if you don't have a suitable standard of French, you won't be offered a place. If you don't have an offer, you can't apply for a student visa. I'm not sure if you are permitted to work while on a student visa in France. Honestly, I really don't fancy your chances if you're not an EU national.

You might want to contact the French embassy nearest you and ask about work visas OR immigration process. It might be a good idea to try to make some good contacts for job as you go along.
