Is working on a cruise ship safe?

Working on cruise ship?

  • Answer:

I dont have any direct experience working on there myself but i have friends that have done. It depends on what department you want to work on. They worked in the ships casino and reckoned they had a far better working life than most, as when the ship docked, due to countries various gambling laws, they didnt have to work so had free time to look around and the tips were good - they said they felt sorry for anyone working in other departments as they were generally treated a lot worse, lesser pay and no, or very little tips and longer working hours. Some bonus's though were, no rent, all their washing done for them, free meals and very cheap booze \o/ One of the downsides was if they happened to share a room with someone they didnt get on with cos then you could be in a horrible situation. I am of course generalising as each operator will be slightly different, i guess the best thing to do is contact the companies and find out what they can offer. Also you will more than likely be drug tested as well so if you are a recreational user then get yourself clean before-hand! Good Luck!

My parents had a friend that worked on a cruise ship. They said that she thought it was going to be the best thing working on a cruise ship, seeing the world. But it turned out to be hell. You don't get a day off, only hours. You work all the time no matter what position you hold and the pay isn't even that great. You get treated horribly and you're cabin barely has room to breathe. To me it's not worth it.
