How to become an Actress?

• Hello, I was wondering how to become a successful actress? I'm 18 years old and want to try and pursue a career in acting. My reason for wanting to pursue acting is because I want to be a role model for all girls, especially African American girls. There aren't a lot of role models for young girls, period. Most women these days become famous from sexual reasons. I want to show girls that they don't have to put themselves out there in a negative way to become famous! I also want to break the weird racial barrier in action movies. I didn't think it existed, but when i saw an article about how fans of The Hunger Games were being racist towards the African American characters like Rue, I became aware of the barrier. The anger of the fans made me realize that they just wanted African Americans to be in "stereotypical" movies, of poverty, sadness and drugs. I want to break that stigma of racial stereotypes among the black community! I want to become an actress to help break down that wall. Please give me advice and tips! Thank you!

  While your reasons for wanting to become an actress are noble, it may not be enough. To become a successful actress (by which I presume you mean the well-known, famous type) takes a lot of work, and so much perseverance, which is why a lot of people give up after some time. You need the kind of perseverance and dedication that only comes from a strong passion for acting. If, in addition to the reasons you mentioned, you have a strong love for acting, then here's what you need to do. First, take acting classes, my acting teacher always says that it takes years of training to become a good actor. Second, gain some experience by booking background work in your area, doing theatre, etc. Third, find an agent who will help you book auditions. These are the first steps to take, but in no way guarantees you to become a Hollywood Star - only a small percentage of actors get there. Hopefully, with talent, hard work and lots of dedication, you'll reach your goal! Good luck!
