How to Block a Commercial email address?

How to block an email address - spam isn't working!?

  • I keep getting spam from the same email address. I think a friends account was hacked, because it comes from someone I know, yet they are not sending it. Anyway, EVERYTIME I get junk email from this account, I SPAM it - yet I still get email from that account. I thought there used to be a way to BLOCK an address in Yahoo mail, but I can't find that option anywhere. I also thought SPAM was supposed to block an address, or at least send it to your SPAM folder, not your inbox folder. Any help for me? PS: I often "empty" my spam folder just because there is so much in there - does that mean those deleted emails can now get into my inbox next time they send something to me?? Do I HAVE to keep all spam addresses in my spam folder for them to be blocked?

  • Answer:

Blocking spammers is a waste of time, because they either hide (spoof) or keep changing the actual address used to send the mail. Simply mark these as Spam and Delete without ever opening them ... some spam can install malware without your clicking any link in it ... Before blocking your friend's address, be sure to notify him or her, so the account can be transferred to another one, or protected by changing the password and security questions - that's easier than setting up a new account and forwarding saved mails ... To block senders in e-mail, go to Options > Mail Options > Accounts > Spam in Classic Mail or in the newest (Beta) Regular Mail ... Then in 'Blocked Email Addresses' on the right, enter the e-mail address you wish blocked, in the box after 'Add a blocked address'. Click on the 'add' button below, then click 'Save changes" at the top of the page ... The other person receives no notice; their mail is not returned as undeliverable - they have no clue, but you never receive their mail again ... The limit of blocked addresses is 500, but most people never get close to this, even when they add spam addresses ...
