How do i tell my mom i want to wear shorts (and i have a tan line)?

I wear shorts but there more like those shorts you wear for soccer and stuff. so basically my knee and under is tanned. my arms and chest are not tanned. but i want to wear shorts like all the other girls, not just because others are wearing them but because its starting to get a bit hot wear i live. how do i tell my mom that? and other thing is that I'm afraid to wear them because i have a tan line and my skin looks pale while sorta, but my knee and under is tan. i need help D: i can't do tanning beds or that lotion that looks like i have a tan any help?
