When and where did Child Labor start and end?

Why is my labor taking so long to progress?

  • I'm 39 weeks + 6 days pregnant today (due date is tomorrow) and my labor is taking absolutely ever to progress! I know they are normally slower with your first child, but I've now been in labor for days. Let me tell you how it went down. Early Saturday morning (12 am) I started to have uncomfortable contractions every 5-6 minutes lasting a minute long. I said, okay, lets see if this goes anywhere. Well at 1 am, they started being every 3 minutes, getting a little more painful. Then at 2 am, they got more painful and were every 2 minutes. So I woke up my fiance and we went to the hospital. They hooked me up to monitors, and I was still having painful contractions every 2 minutes, getting more and more painful the longer I was there. When they first checked me at 3 am, my cervix was soft and starting to thin out, and I was about 1 cm dilated. An hour later, I thinned out more and was dilated to a 2 cm. Thing kept progressing and getting more painful, then they checked me again two hours later, and my cervix thinned out more but I made no progress by dilating any more. So they told me to walk for awhile, and this was at 6 am. I walked until about 8 am, and I still made no progress, then my contractions slowed down, to about every 10 minutes, and were less painful. So at 9 am, they told me I should go home to continue my labor at home until they're painful again. Well, here I am, two days later. I've been having irregular contractions ever since I left the hospital, ranging from 2 minutes apart, to an hour apart. Sometimes they're painful, sometimes they're not. Yesterday, I lost big chunks of my mucous plug three different times - once in the morning, then afternoon and then evening. Nothing happened. And my water has not broken. And when I lost a chunk of my mucous plug that morning, there was a tiny tinge of pink blood in it. But I'm assuming that's from the sex? (we had sex twice that morning - I really want to start my labor back up, lol) Today I have an appointment - in two hours - and I want to tell them my labor is really bugging me. It's so slow, I swear it could be in a world record book. Please tell me there is something I could do. I've tried walking, bouncing, sex, spicy food, nipple stimulation, anything you could think of really. But my labor will not pick up. Is it normal for early labor to be like this? When do you think my son will finally arrive? Will my doctor do anything for me, like give me medicine to speed things up? I'm exhausted and just want to meet my little man now.

He won't stay in there forever. He's gotta come sometime in this lifetime ...so just wait. They could break your water and give you pitocin to start the labor, but why do that? I know you're miserable ...but you've waited 9 months. It won't hurt for him to be tucked away nicely in your womb for a little longer. One of my friends was 42 weeks before she had her daughter. Another was 41 weeks and 3 days. They had natural births and refused to dope themselves up and their babies with medicine to progress something so natural. Labor is one of the last real and natural things we have left. Embrace it. I went into labor on my own at 35 weeks and at 38 weeks with both of my children. When its time, they'll come. Pre labor SUCKS but just enjoy it. You'll meet him soon enough. Good luck!

It's not actually labor unless you are dialiting. I was admitted to the hospital at 34 weeks with heavy contractions and they stopped my preterm labor. After that I was back in the hospital 2 other times with strong painful contrractions but not dilating. The contractions would eventually calm down after hours to less painful random ones. My doctor scheduled me an induction at 39 weeks because of this. I was having contractions everyday some painful some not. I would ask your doctor about inducing you are past the 39 week mark so there shouldn't be any problems.

This can be common, some people can be in labour for up to 3, 4 days, and the first part can take a while to get established, if this goes on too long past your due date they will induce your labor this will make it labor come on, and sometimes can progress quickly this though often can make it more painful than normal, if that doesn't work they will do ether an emergency or scheduled C section. Hope that helps a little Good luck and congratulations

i remember i was expecting my son i went into labor and i was 3 cm dialated they got me walking around and then they checked me again and said i was 3 1/2cm dialated so they went ahead and admitted me. after that my labor became really slow. for hours i was still 3 1/2 cm dialated i couldnt take the pain anymore and got an epidrual. but the nurses didnt put enough iv fluids in me which caused fetal distress and i got an emergency c section. but in your case they might put you on PIT (pitocin) it's a medicine that speeds up your labor. and make contractions pains worse. which also can cost fetal distress and c section.

One of my friends had her daughter back on the 6th, she had been in "labor" off and on for the past 5 weeks. Sometimes it can take awhile and just because it looks like it doesn't mean thats what it is. It sucks! You can ask your doctor if they will do a membrane sweep, thats what she had her midwife do and she gave birth at 2am the next morning :) Rather then that, unless sex is causing you to have an orgasm, which I hope it is, sex doesn't do anything but soften your cervix which yours is doing that just fine on its own. I would recommend staying busy, maybe clean the house or depending on your weather go out and do some yard work. The bending and moving around can actually help labor along. Good luck and hope he come soon!
