I believe you have a chance to do one activation over the phone... Google or go to Microsoft and see if there is a phone number you can call to activate it again if you're re installing. What are you doing though? with the windows that you need to have the key? also, if it works, you should do a recovery CD so you ca always go back to the time that you want windows to look like.
