What are the prerequisites to become an architect?

Answer:
I took drafting in high school, which focused both on mechanical drafting and architectural drafting. Anything that teaches you how to use Autocad, Revit, 3dsMAX would help you. Also, taking some art classes to train your hand would benefit you. Even though there isn't much hand drawing in the architecture profession, if you can't sell a design to a client on a drink napkin at dinner, then you can't sell it at all. You need to be able to express your ideas with pen and paper, and then present them professionally using the computer. The more computer design programs you know how to use the better. I had a lot of Autocad experience, and a small amount of 3dsMAX experience upon enrolling in architecture school. Both of which helped me get a jump on my projects. They teach you all of the programs you'll need once you're taking classes though. To be a licenced architect, you'll have to complete your Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, and then pass a licencing exam. Long road ahead, but the degree is definitely worth it. You can do many different things in design with an architecture degree, such as graphic design, product design, advertising etc.
