Where And What Is The Use Of A Hyphen?

Would I use a colon, semi-colon or hyphen for this sentence?

  • I was about to post a status about the song Lonely Boy by the Black Keys when I had no idea which or the above to use when saying 'I'm not sure what's best * the song or the man dancing.'. Could someone help me decide which to use (where the asterisk is). I'm not even going to post the status anymore, it's just bugging me haha.

  • Answer:

The semicolon is incorrect. "The song or the man dancing" is an incomplete sentence and that prohibits the semicolon. The hyphen is best here: "I'm not sure what's best - the song or the man dancing."
