Specific method for witnessing to Jews? (educational/research purposes)?
-
I attend a private religous school. I just finished writing this massive research paper on Judaism for my literature class. I even professionaly interviewed three different practicing Jews and attended a service at my local synagogue. Then I had to write a biblical analysis response to the first paper. Now I have to create a powerpoint presentation and twenty minute speech on how to effectively witness to my world view (Judaism). I have worked very hard, only to have hit a wall now. I was going about this fine, creating my own method, until my professor used Judaism as an example in class and said there was a "specific method with a name" and I started to panic. I went on the internet to try to find this specific method but was very unsuccessful. All I came up with was something unofficial like "Jewish Evangelism." I asked my professor, if that was what she was referring to and she responded with, " Thats definitely not it. I cannot tell you the name of the method as that would be an unfair advantage to the other students." I have to find this specific method by tomorrow, and I am having no luck. If any of you have any possible leads or ideas, I would appreciate any help very much. -- fyi. I have a high regard and extreme respect for Judaism. That is why I CHOSE it as my research project worldview and have spent the last three months studying every aspect. This study on a specific worldview however was not optional. Yes, the three Jews I interviewed were aware of all the details of the project and were very helpful and equally respectful. Lastly Im not out to convert Jews, this is just to fufill a requirement so I can graduate. AND if I did want to convert anyone for that matter, it would be through my lifestyle and actions, not by preaching at them and using a method my professor requires so I could pass my lit class. :) -- fyi. Answer:
Feivel called it "supercessionism". It's also known as "replacement theology". It's the idea that the Xtian covenant "replaces" the Covenant that G-d made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It's the idea that "circumcision of the heart" (whatever that is) replaces the adherence to Torah and Halakha, Jewish Law. It's the idea that Xtianity has replaced Judaism, or absorbed it, so that Xtians are now the Chosen People, and are somehow "perfected Jews". It's the idea that has bred two millenia of antisemitism, because if it were true, then Jews have been replaced and should cease to exist, except we're still here. So yeah, we really don't like it. And we don't like a school that presumes to teach its students, in a "lit class", how best to convert us. What they should be teaching you is respect for others, and the Golden Rule, how to treat others as you yourself would wish to be treated. If you describe your opinions accurately, you are too good for them. G-d bless you for being a better person than your professor.

Supersessionism We hate it. It is not true and it is misleading when people use this method to try to convert Jews. Actually its not misleading. It's a downright lie @Booth-I have read it and it makes no sense

Did you tell the three people you interviewed it was part of an anti-Semitic lesson to single out Jews to try to convert them? Don't worry about your grade for the class, it's not a real class. And chances are if you honestly describe Judaism then you will get a poor grade anyways. Christianity obsesses over a fanfic version of Judaism.

Supersessionism and replacement theology are names for the theology underlying some evangelization of Jews. Most evangelization to Jews tries to hide them. If you have enough time remaining, you might be able to get a method name by contacting either your denomination's missionary department directly or a counter-missionary group like Jews for Judaism. From what I've seen, most missionary organizations tend to hold their real cards very close to their chest on these issues. They're pretty cagey and sometimes outright deceptive in what they chose to reveal publicly. Let us know what your denomination is, that could help narrow down the search. Feel free to e-mail me if you'd rather. I'm vehemently opposed to evangelization, but you seem nice so I'm willing to try to help you with this requirement. Good luck. If you don't come up with the name your prof is looking for, don't stress about it. As important as grades are to you right now, it is, in the end, just a grade.

I suggest you research fulfilled prophecies concerning the messiah. I think you'll find most, if not all of the prophecies fulfilled. A Jew will be more receptive to old testament prophecy, then new testament Gospel. The Gospel according to Matthew is directed towards the Jewish reader. Matthew touches more on old testament prophecy.
