Christians, how many of you truly believe AIDS and all sickness is caused by original sin and the fall?

• I've heard alot of ppl on here say things like this. Do you honestly believe because two people had sex everyone is punished by having birth defects and AIDS and suffering? How can an all forgiving god not just forgive adam and eve without killing his son and without punishing all of us who had nothing to do with them doing the horizontal tango? I mean god doesn't say to punish your children be cause you had anal sex with your wife or something.

• Answer:

  The immediate causes of sickness is germs and viruses (a virus in the case of AIDS). However we all know our behavior actually opens the door to those sicknesses. For instance if you expose yourself to certain infections, you are likely to get infected! Now, if you act in a way that affects your health, that can affect your partner;s health, and affect your children;s health. God may forgive you but that won't take away the consequences of your behavior. In the same way God's forgiveness was available to Adam, but that didn't remove the consequences of his actions. Following generations continued to behave worse and worse. And sickness became more and more frequent, and death came at a younger and younger age. The Bible doesn't use the term "original sin" but Adam's sin, becoming the predecessor of all our sins, is at the root of sickness and death. By the way, if there were no sickness and no violence, there would be no death - I wonder how that would affect the density of the earth's population! I presume God would have had other solutions, far better than sin, sickness and death in such a case.
