Who wrote the Holy Bible?

Who exactly wrote the bible?

  • i mean seriously, i keep hearing from every religious person where i live that god did it. was the wordings from the great man with a beard in the sky found on stone and written onto parchment that was past down for many years? (no not the commandments) or was it written by some wise guy (maybe a philosopher or someone like a mahatma Gandhi equivalent) and then the great words were changed throughout history for reasons that we (or i) do not know yet? i figured this would be a great question for debate (or answer on yahoo answers) because people who do question have been turned down by one simple answer : god wrote it, simple as that. to tell you the truth i don't believe god wrote the bible, but I'm willing to hear opinions from other people, so feel free to answer with what you believe (don't worry, i wont judge or banish you to the Ever-Free Forest XD)

  • Answer:

It was written by about forty authors over the course of about 1500 years. But it was the Holy Spirit who inspired each of them: " Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. " II Peter 1:20-21 " All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. " II Timothy 3:16-17 consider this: http://www.reasons.org/articles/fulfilled-prophecy-evidence-for-the-reliability-of-the-bible

Nobody knows for sure. Tradition has it that there were 40 authors but nobody has ever been able to name them or to show any evidence of this. Even biblical scholars admit that it is highly unlikely that the gospels of Matthew,Mark,Luke and John were actually written by those men.

God authrized and inspired 40 different Jewish men to write the Bible. God told and showed them what to write. They wrote them down in human terms and terms they were familiar with during their time in history. :)

Ecclesiastes 7:29

If I wrote a book and said that I was inspired by God, how many of you will believe me? I guess you'd test it, right?

A real god would have written an easy to read book with clear cut civilised moral codes (like Slavery, Rape and Child Molestation are definite no-nose), beautiful math(Pi anyone?), perfect laws of physics and earth sciences that we could look at today in wonder. What they would have us believe is a book filled with contradictions, imperfect math, silly MAGIC breaking all laws of physics and a preoccupation with everybody's sex life. Happy is he who dasheth thy infants on the rocks… Psalms 137:9 God wants women to marry their rapist… Deuteronomy 22:28-29 Yeah right ;) And they wonder why we think it's ALL boolshit. Meh... ~
