Where To Watch Indie Films?

Do you usually select films to watch based on director, actors, popularity, theme, time period or country?

  • When selecting a film to watch, what do you most often base your pick on: - The director of the film (ex. you'll watch a movie if it directed by Hitchcock) - The actors in the film (ex. you'll watch a movie if Elizabeth Taylor is in it) - The popularity or historical/cultural importance of the film (ex. you watch all the classic films or films most talked about) - The theme or subject matter of the film (ex. you love watching films about World War 1) - The time period the film was made of (ex. you love watching films made in the 50s) - The country the film was made in (ex. you especially enjoy films made in Italy) - The ratings of the film ( ex. you watch movies when they get favourable reviews) Thanks!

    That depends. Often I watch films because the plot interests me, sometimes I come across films which have a very high rating but the plot wouldn't attract my attention (f.e. the Godfather). Sometimes I see a film which I liked and I look up what other films that director/actors made (f.e. I loved LOTR so now I keep track of Peter Jackson, I loved Edward Scissorhands so I keep track of Tim Burton and watch the films he already made). Also if a film is talked about a lot: Silence of the Lambs or Fight Club or now the Hunger Games (curiousity) I'm likely to see it. Also: historical importance: I tend to watch a lot of films on WWII during May (the month my country was freed). What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't depend on just one feature which helps me decide on which film I should watch. I'm likely to watch anything, though.

I usually watch whatever movies seem interesting to me, so theme or subject matter is first. Actors is a close second. If a film has Robert De Niro or another one of my favorite actors, then I'll definitely watch it.

WOW. You must be a screen writer. I think everyone is different on this. Personally... I choose a film based on content, theme, subject and I am very visual. It helps me if the scene has a period or takes place in either a foreign far away place. That's because of my active imagination. I love seeing hills, valleys and even an accent. I also sometimes depending on the film base them on the actors. If I tune and the actors are unable to act, I lose interest. But.. the actors don't have to be the most popular, just good at their craft. I can personally.. tell if a movie for TV or Cable. Or The big screen has good script writers. That is my main pet peeve. If there is imagery involved that blows me away and captivates me, or if there is a great hook from the beginning that lures me in even better.

If it sounds like it has a good plot, and yeah, the actors influence my decision too. I suppose the director does a little bit, but not that much.

for me it goes : 1. I see who directed the film , if it's someone I admire I get the film. 2. If it's an actor I love , I would probably end up getting the movie. but for me, mostly I would get the film on who directed it. seeing that I'm into filmmakers , I usually see which filmmaker directed the film.

Time period movies, I like films from the 80's. Also from creators (either director or writer), Steven Spielburg and Tim Burton. Plot and ratings.
