Is there a way to make my high heels a bit lower?

I have a beautiful pair of boots that i spent a lot of money for, but unfortunately the heels are too high for me to wear comfortably. I have some probs with my feet, and after wearing these boots with 3 and 1/2 inch heels, my feet hurt really bad the whole next day. I'd like to get an inch taken off the heels, but have been told it would mess up the boots? does anyone know if it's possible to get heels lowered?
