How often do I really have to change a tampon?
-
So, I'm 13 and would prefer to wear tampons to pads because my mom uses really thin pads and my period's often moderately heavy to where I have to change my pad up to 5 times a day. I'm ruining a lot of panties for this, and we run out of pads too fast. I was going to buy a pack of my own, but my sister has used tampons so I tried a tampon. It felt funny to take out because I only left it in like 2 minutes so it wasn't even opened yet, but I still prefer them to pads. So I was thinking that I would try to put a tampon in every morning (around 7) and leave it in until lunch (which would be about 12:30)but that's 5 1/2 hours. I looked at some similar questions. some said you could leave them in for 8 hours but one person said only 2-3. Can someone who knows what they're doing help a girl out?

Answer:
The instructions that come in the box will tell you up to 8hrs. But that doesn't mean you can't change it sooner. 5 1/2 hours would be fine just make sure you use the right absorbancy for your flow. I would still suggest buying pads to sleep in, just in case you were to over sleep.

it is safe to wear them for up to 8 hours, it normally says on the packet i normally wear them for max 5 but thats because im a cautious person. don't leave them in because of Toxc shock synrome (look it up) anything up until 8 is fine just make sure you get the right absorbancy so it doesn't leak!

5.5 hours is safe, but may be too long for the absorbency, depending on your flow. You may want to wear one of the thin pads as well until you get a good sense for how heavy your flow is.

Do not leave them in for more than 4 hours. You might can get away with 6, but I wouldn't recommend anything any longer. If you leave them in too long, you can get an infection, or toxic shock syndrome.
