When I buy a Verizon phone from someone, what do I need to check?

    ESN. It stands for Electronic Serial Number. It'll either be clean or not. If it's not clean that means the phone's been reported lost or stolen and you can't activate it. Call or visit the Verizon store with number prior to purchasing to find out.

check to make sure the ESN is clear from verizon.

Do I need to check for a clean ESN or MEID or both? ---------just ESN#. Hit *#06# SEND on the phone to get it... It MUST have a clean ESN... meaning the original owner is no longer in contract with it... OR.. the owner was in contract, but paid the ETF fee and FINAL BILL down to $0.00 and has no more obligations with Verizon... OR... it has not been reported lost/stolen...
