How can I watch my security cameras online?

Can I request access to watch the security cameras of my building if someone stole a package for me?

  • In the building where I own a condo there is security cameras 24 hrs, I know the main computer is in the building and it's supposed recording 24 hrs. Two days ago UPS delivered a package for me and drop it in the reception with out asking for a signature or nothing, just drop it on a bench next to the elevator (where there is a camera) I know this because all the mailers do this everyday, they drop the packages in the bench not only for me but for all the residents. I received the notification of UPS saying the package was delivered and when I checked nothing there, I ask the neighboors and no one knows anything about the package. I wrote the members of the board asking to check the videos to see who's the thief or in any case UPS never delivered but no response from them. Once I had the same problem and when I post notes around the building saying that someone was stealing packages and was going to report to the police the president of the board appeared with the lost package in my door and told us that he took it by mistake, he never allowed us to look at the cameras. Now this happened again but this time he didn't appeared with the package or even answered or emails, and I want to know if there is a legal resource to make him show the videos, what should I do? Should I call the police department? I live in Illinois, Thank you for your time

    Call the police, tell them what happened. And tell them what happened previously about the last package. Then they might investigate for theft.

Sure, you can request it, but unless you have a court order or if the police come by with a search warrant or subpeona, they are not obligated to actually let you watch it. So, go to the police and if they feel your complaint is warranted and they're able to gather enough evidence, they can get the video logs from your apartment complex. Btw, maybe posting a whole bunch of notes to everyone in your complex about how you get things delivered there when you're not home the last time you had a package missing is the reason why the current theif knew to take yours in the first place. You might want to rethink that strategy.
