Avoidant Personality Disorder, Social Anxiety, or what?
-
I have been really annoyed for the past year or two and think it is now time to figure everything out. I am going to list out some symptoms and I would greatly appreciate opinions on what personality disorder i might have cause i truly feel i have one. 1. If given the choice, I would choose to avoid a social gathering like a party. 2. I never seem to know what to say to people and CAN'T keep a conversations going. 3. I get extremely nervous if all the attention is ever on me. 4. I hate texting people cause i never know what to talk about. 5. I have low self confidence. 6. I don't think I could ever be in a relationship because I would be so boring, and i would never be able to get close enough to a girl to have one in the first place. 7. People describe me as very quite. Those are just my main symptoms! What do u think? Also, could ADD be linked to the disorder I may have??? Thanks!

Answer:
You just sound introverted. Try this personality test to confirm this. http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp You've already done the introspection to realize you probably do have an avoidant personality and social anxiety. But you shouldn't connect your 'symptoms' to a disorder - more like you should come to terms with who you are. And then come up with solutions to the qualities you're not liking about yourself. Sounds like you want to be more extroverted. Do your research and figure out how!

It's not avoidant personality disorder (people with that generally don't feel they have anything wrong with them, they just get on with avoiding). You don't describe anything that sounds like ADD. You may have some social anxiety - which is very fixable if you want to change it.
