If it is debilitating to the point where you cannot hold down a job, you can apply for SSI and SSDI - however you'll need medical proof that you cannot work while on the medication for schizophrenia - a letter from a doctor will do. Schizophrenia is a not a service related disability. Therefore, you will not receive any compensation from the VA - however, you may be qualified to receive health care depending on what type of discharge you receive. Call the Veteran Affairs office and explain your situation to a representative for more information.
