Is there such a thing as boarding house pregnancy syndrome?
-
I know when women live together our periods sync up (boarding house syndrome), Im wondering about pregnancy. My sister is due any day and she moved in with us in January. We are very close, My last period was in November. I have no insurance to go to the dr, the health clinic only gives urine tests. I have taken 6. they started 100% neg. i took one last night & this morning and there is a very very faint 2nd line. but it really could just be what looks like a line from seeing the control line so bright. that's how faint it is. the only possible pregnancy symptoms are i am breaking out and once in a while nauseous. but there's been a bug going around so that could explain the nauseous. i have been pregnant 3 times before with 1 miscarriage. i don't feel pregnant. if it wasn't for the missed period for so long i wouldn't even give it a second thought. but missing 3 maybe 4 periods i would think a test would come up clearly positive. so has anyone ever heard of boarding house for pregnancy. since my sister and i are so close could that explain the missed periods. please don't be rude. this is serious and im really looking for help

Answer:
No, but I have heard of sympathetic pregnancy symptoms. They are common in husbands/partners of pregnant women and include weight gain, nausea, etc. I have heard of a similar phenomenon in psychiatry called "folie a deux" where someone close to someone with a psychotic illness actually develops symptoms of the illness. So, yes, I would say if the two of you are particularly close it could be quite possible. I am not a medical doctor, however, but the power of the mind is very, very strong and I would not doubt if this were the case with you at all.

Sounds weird. If you know for sure that you aren't pregnant, then maybe it is just because she's not having a period that you aren't. Never know. Maybe try googling some information.
