What do you call the glasses wore by near-sighted people?

Do you think I just need glasses or do you think something is seriously wrong with my eyes? Please help!?

  • My vision is blurry on far away object and the farther away it gets.. then I can't see it at all it's just this big blur. (like words on tv.) I think I have near sighted vision. Anyways I'm trying to figure out whether I just need glasses or I have an actually eye disease or something. I am a hypochondriac by the way. Every member in my immediate family needs glasses. Dad is farsighted since he was like 8. My sister is farsighted? for at least 10 yrs or so (shes 25) and my brother is nearsighted for like 3 years now. (he's 22) My mom has just had vision problems since she's been older. And almost every extended family has glasses. All four grandparents, every aunt and uncle and almost (like maybe 2 that don't need them) every cousin on both sides of family need them. My grandpa has cataracts and glaucoma but he's old so... Other than that there is no disease of the eye on either side of the family. No diabetes either. But ive been wondering if I have Diabetes or not (hypochondriac) I don't think I do. Even if I did, I read that it can take years for people to know if they have Type 2 Diabetes so even I was a diabetic would it already affect my vision? I have looked at the laser lights before, but it's never really been shined directly in my eye for long periods of time. I am 15 1/2 years old. The last time I went to an eye doctor I think I was 6 years old. My Vision was 20/20 then. And really it was fine up until a few years ago. I am hs'ed now. But I was 11 yrs old and I never really had trouble seeing things. And defiantly not in 5th grade.(age 10) It wasn't really until I was about 12 1/2 I started knowing i couldn't see things, and only then because other people could see things I couldn't. I spend almost 24/7 on the computer and it seems like ever since I started spending a lot of time on the comp. my vision has gone down hill. One times (a few months ago) I didn't spend ANY time on the tv or comp. for like 2 weeks and I could see better (still blurry on tv but at least I could read it) tha lasted like a week and then it went downhill again and that hasn't every happened before or since. (but ive been on the computer too) It seems to just get worse and worse. It takes a long time for my eyes adjust in the dark but after it does I think I can see relatively well. I have a horrible diet (soda and candy) and honestly absolutely nothing healthy EVER. I have ate like this my entire life. (I am a healthy weight though.) If I squint I can see a little better (but if im really far away from the tv or something I still can't see it just makes it a little clearer. Squinting hurts my head though. I noticed recently if I close my eyes for just a few seconds and then open them and NOT blink stuff is a lot clearer but then as soon as I blink its right back to blurry again. I can't see things far away (even if they are really not that far away) like words on a tv and farther away I get I can no longer read it is just really blurry. And like signs on the freeway I can see it better and better the closer we get to it and when we get really close I can see it and it is perfectly clear. But I can see the actual sign itself as soon as a normal sighted person can. I can see cars off etc. If I look at across my lot (we have a lot of land) I can see houses, houses clear on the mountain, I can see people, birds, dogs, etc far way. About a football field lengh away or something I could see a fox and some prairie dogs. I wore my brother's classes ( he has bad eyesighted and is nearsighted.) It's amazing how much it helped! I could see things perfectly fine on the tv and everything came in clear and it improved my vision and made me realize how poor my sight really is. Things that concern me: The laser, but it never was pointed directly at my eye for long periods of time. Diabetes. If I was a diabetic I would have type 2 and I read that people can have diabetes for years and not know, which makes me think my vision wouldn't be decreasing like this. I don't really think I have diabetes though. Any thoughts? I looked at this vision thing and the lines for supposed to be straight. And if the lines were squiggly then you had macular deg. The lines for straight for me. I PASSED that test. Things that concern me: Ever since I was like 2 or 3 I could see red spots. No other way to explain that really just small red spots everywhere that is extremely enhanced when it's dark. I don't even notice it anymore. (unless it's dark.) I had my eyes checked when I was little and everything was 100% fine. And I didn't start having vision problems until about 10 yrs later. So I guess that nothing. I get a spec of blood in the corner of both eyes first just when I showered and then after I sleep this only happens when I have makeup on. This started recently (month or so) and I haven't noticed my vision getting any worse. On the red spots it literally just noticed it one night and been that way ever since. Has never gotten better or worse. When I was 6 I got kicked in the eye I had a scratch across pupil and my vision was blurry I went to the doctor and got eye drops. 2 week recheck my eye and Vision was back to normal. And both eyes are the same vision wise and I only got kicked in one eye so I don't think that has anything to do with it. Other than that no eye trauma. I don't have a healthy diet, lots of stess and don't get much sleep. I don't have any pain or anything and my eye looks fine. I've never had pink eye or any other infection. So just need glasses or something wrong. If you have any more questions ask and I will respond. Im sorry it's so long. Please help me I REFUSE to go to an eye doctor so dont' even mention that. Thanks! Already asked this in the optical section.

You are overboard with this!!! You should visit a doctor, double check. No having a bad vision doesn't mean having an eye disease. If he prescribes you glasses then wear them when you think you need to. I have glasses, but i only wear them in school (to see whats on the board/screen), when watching TV or to see road signs (basically anything that is far away, i can squint, my eyes focus a little, but still glasses help lot. On daily basis though i do not wear glasses, because i don't need to, i can see fine anything around me, a little blurry maybe, but i don't even notice the blurriness (unless i take off my glasses, then i right away feel the difference). One thing i DONT GET is you say you refuse to go to the eye doctor, then how can we (people who have no idea who you are, what your eye biology is, recommend something on Yahoo answers???) Go to an eye doctor, stop being a baby. Taking care of your eyes is a responsible thing, your eyes are no less important than your brain, your heart, your legs or hair. Your eyes are everything, imagine not having them. don't take your eyes for granted, go to the doctor. One more suggestion, don't wear other peoples glasses. Doesn't matter if they are your brothers or my brothers. Your eyes are unique, do not wear other peoples glasses, you can worsen your vision more by doing so.

It does sound like you should see an optician (eye doctor) if the tv is becoming blurry. I didn't need glasses until after I had had my first little boy and I was about 21 so it can come on later in life.. Where you are already squinting and straining to see the tv is already making your eyes work harder which will make them deteriorate quicker, and give you head aches, so the sooner you can get to the doc the better :) I often see little dots, whether they're red in the dark or white or black in the day time, it doesnt last long and I think its just part of the light changing and your eyes adjusting. As for the hypercondria, I think we all have it to a certain extent, without wanting to sound patronising I think you'll probably grow out of it, maybe not all together but to a lesser extent, but you're bound to be worried about your body occasionally, its very important and at 15 changing a heck of alot, take care :)
