Bachelor and Masters degree from the same school?

Received a Bachelor's degree and jobless? Should I go back to school in obtain my Masters or keep trying?

  • Well; to attempt to make a long story short lol ===> I am 24 years old and graduated college last year with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. I am from a small town with a population of about 18,000. After college, I moved to a slightly larger city (but same state) in pursuit of a job. Throughout my search, I only found a cashier position. Definitely wasn't enough to pay my bills so I moved back to my hometown due to the stress. Since being here I still have been jobless. It's very unfortunate for me because I never imagined it would take this long. I've only been able to get retail (cashier) positions in the past because that's where most of my experience is. However; I have no interest in being a manager of a retail store. I'm debating on going back to school to obtain my Masters degree in Teaching. They have an all-paid, online program for people who have obtained a Bachelor's degree. I feel like with my Bachelor's degree it is such a broad field. What do you think I should do? I love children and even though I dread going back to school, I succeed in school and I feel as though going back could work in my favor. What do you think? & please no rude comments. I'm fully aware that the ultimate decision is up to me. Just wanted a little insight. Thanks in advance! :)

  • Answer:

The simple answer is NO! If U can't get a job now what makes U think U will have 1 with a Masters? You will just have more debt! R employers telling U gee, love to hire U but U don't have enough education? Or, R they saying do U have experience in this field? I think we both know the answer here. Don't put it off because going back to school will only make it worse.

Sorry about that. Have you considered the Air Force? There are no combat units in the Air Force (unless you sign up for Special Ops). You get to chose your job in the Air Force. Plus, because of your degree, you can go as an officer. You'll get paid $40k+ per year, you'll get to travel, you WON'T be put in combat and you'll have really nice benefits; including educational benefits to pay your way through grad school. You should look into. You'll like it!

I would start looking for jobs in other states. Sometimes when you look for careers in other cities/states it benefits you in the long run. Independence, salary, new adventures, meet new ppl, etc! It couldnt hurt right? Start looking online! If thats not what your looking for then I recommend getting your Masters Degree and start teaching. You love school, higher education, better chances of finding a job, etc. WHy not???? :)

Questions!!

You can't exactly get a Master's in "Teaching" - you would have one in education. You also don't need one to teach. You just need to pass your state's credential program. Usually, you only get a Master's in Education if you want high-level administration jobs or plan to get a PhD. You may also want to work for school boards. If you get a Master's you still can't teach because you need the credential program certificate. It usually only takes two months, but the costs vary wildly. I saw at for $2,000 from one program while it was $6,000 at my school. You should see how much a teacher makes and decide if it may be for you. Just realize a lot of them are having trouble finding a job as well. Best of luck to you.
