Are Siberian huskies watch dogs?

  • My cousin has a family of 4 beautiful white Siberian huskies and when I went over she let them out to the front yard which has a fence on a wall. The mummy husky kept on running over to each wall and standing on her hind legs, looking out the fence and keeping watch. My cousin told me that the Daddy husky tried to keep watch too but the mummy didn't let the dad take over, so he just sits by the fence door watching outside. I saw on some websites and some books that sib. Huskies aren't meant to be watchdogs so why do they do this? It's pretty cool though :)

    Yes. I do believe they can be watch dogs. Almost any dog really as long as it can bark and isnt scared of people or anything!

they can be very good watch dogs they will bark or howl at intruders to say stay away from my yard and maybe they just do it just cause almost all dogs will bark at a intruder

I think so. :) Any dog can be a watch dog if you it to be. Huskies are very beautiful dogs, btw. I always wanted one. :)

Siberian huskies are not classiedas watch dogs or guard dogs, thus they are classified as working dogs. But remember that is it the dog instinct to protect the owner... plus when they are taught and trained to do so, they can be a guard dog as well.

Hey I have white siberian husky named cocoa ( ironic right) and she is also very watchful. The reason why people say that they are not good watch dogs are because huskies love people to death and don't at all see people as a threat. They are very curious and watchful of people but they don't tend to scare people or alert their owners with a bark etc.. if someone arrives, however they just look at the visitors(my husky looks at the window and wags her tail) witch doesn't make people scared of my property they are more like what a cute doggy!!! The reason they are watching is because they are curios on whats happening outside of their yard, also because they are very friendly and enjoy seeing people.
