Teenagers with summer jobs: what hours do you work?
-
im looking for a summer job and it will be my first job. im looking at applying to michaels arts and crafts store or sears portrait studio or maybe petco. my mom wants me to get a job and i agree i need one (im 16) but i am worried that if i get a job i will miss out on my whole summer. i have several trips planned and one camp im already registered to go to. how will i work when im going to be out of town a lot? ive tried asking my mom that before and she just said well we might just have to stay here all summer. i really want to spend my summer with family and friends since its the last summer because next yr is my senior year then i will be in college and even more busy. so my question is how did/do you handle balancing a job with a busy summer? what hours do you work? i just dont want to miss out on everything :( thanks in advance :) God bless xD

Answer:
I have a summer job that is May long weekend to Thanksgiving (Canadian) in October. I will work Friday nights and Saturday/Sundays from May long to the end of June, plus holidays and then full time (daily) in July in August. Back to weekends in September and October. I'm working full time, so in July and August that would be 5 days a week and 35-40 hours a week. I'll be taking a 2 week vacation to France in June and then I will be working as much as I can. You can take time off your job to have a life, but some jobs restrict how much time you're allotted. For instance, I'm only allowed to take a maximum of 2 weeks off work because it's a summer job and they need as much employees as possible working. You will definitely be able to hang out with your friends, but keep in mind that a job is important and you will have to put it as your first priority when planning other activities. Cheers!
