Am i going to get fired?
-
A couple of weeks ago, I started a new job as a cook. I am a slow learner and I started to notice all the people that had been hired along with me were already starting to get the hang of it when i was still very confused. When it was obvious i wasnt going to get the hang out things, the manager then put me on dishwasher duty. One of my friends from work told me that there had been talk about me getting fired, but the manager said she was going to give me another chance. Today when I went to get my paycheck, I asked the general manager if I could switch to being a server and she said she would get back to me soon. Am I putting too much stress on the management? Do you think i'm gonna gar fired? Or would the manager have told me when I asked about switching to server?

Hello Friend, Be presentable and smart worker. Try to showcase your skills on the platform you are. You will not be fired as I think. Best of luck!
Focus on your job and stop stressing. I'm sure you have other attributes which they desire.
You get fired from jobs because you are not trying, you are disruptive, you are late, you do not call in if you can not make work. you miss work regularly, you are behaving badly or the employer is cutting back on expenses. Oh, you get fired because you lie on your application. If during the interview they asked you if you could cook, or you have experience cooking in a restaurant and you said yes, then maybe you will be fired. If you said no, then they accept the fact they will have to train you. Most employers know people learn at different times. How do you think they get cooks, they train them. Anyhow as long as you are trying and not totally messing things up, you will be OK. Just make sure you do none of those fire-able offenses stated above. Running the tank, or dish washing is just a way for the manage to make efficient use of his cooks and kitchen staff. No, you do not want to be a server if you can not pick up the cook work fast enough. Mess up out on the dinning room floor and it is a fast ticket out the door. Let your boss know you want to cook and that you will try harder and that you learn slowly but make up for it in the final. It is always rude for fellow employees to talk about who is getting fired as they probably do not know anything. If a manager talks about firing people in front of others, then that is a bad manager and you should find another job.
No, your not going to get fired. All good workplaces take your request considerately
You say that it's become obvious to your employer and colleagues that you aren't going to get the hang of the job: if you were hired as a cook and yet are unable to perform as one, then you aren't meeting the duties of your job description or the terms of your employment contract. Your employer would have the right to make you redundant if they cannot or are unwilling to find a new role for you - if they advertised for cooks and not dishwashers or servers, there's no guarantee they have server jobs available to give you. It sounds like you have a decent manager who is willing to give you a chance if she can, so it's possible she plans to do just that. Saying that she'd get back to you soon means just that - she's working out where to fit you in and whether there's a server role available. No guarantees but a bit of good will.
