How to restore windows 7 without losing data?

How to Reformat Drive C Without Losing Data on Drive D, OS is Windows 7?

  • I'm using Windows 7 Home Basic OS on my computer, and I want to reformat it. I have lots of important work files, music, videos, and pictures saved on my Drive D, but I don't have any sufficient external storage devices to back them up. My question is, how can I reformat my Drive C without losing the saved files on my other drives? Your help is appreciated. Thanks..

  • Answer:

When you format, you choose which drive to format. The other one will not be touched, unless you tell it to. The only exception that will cause it to format multiple drives is if you have a raid setup. If you are really paranoid, unplug your D drive next time you turn your computer off.

You can, and won't lose any data on D:. When you reboot with your Windows CD to reinstall/reformat just know which partition D: drive is.
