How do I apply for Section 8 in Texas?

How much money to people earn from welfare in Austin, Texas? Particularly SNAP, Medicaid, TANF & Section 8?

  • A single woman lives with her sister who is now moving out of state. The single woman wants to stay here and apply for assistance to support her 2 school age kids and one baby at home. There is no father in the picture. She has tried to get child support but hasn't been successful. What assistance is available and what time frame is she looking at to apply everyplace. She has a place to live for now, but loses her apartment in a few months when the lease is up and won't qualify to sign a renewal alone. She wants to be able to get another one on her own. What are the requirements and income restrictions for welfare? Having the baby makes it difficult to get a job that can give her a good enough income to pay for daycare while she works. If approved for one type of benefit do you automatically qualify for the others? Considering that I've only gotten criticism instead of answers, I'd better clarify. If you notice, *I* am not the one who wants to apply for welfare. Actually, this is a fictional situation. I am in a debate with a co-worker about how much money people get on welfare. He is a very high income person but is completely out of touch with how much welfare fraud there is. The scenario above is a combination of some people in our neighborhood who are living with free healthcare, food stamps/snap, extremely reduced rent, etc, etc, etc. What makes me mad is that they drive a nicer car than I do and their kids wear nicer clothes than my child wears. My co-worker doesn't believe it. I just know that there are 3 women in that house and each have at least one child. Granted, they live with a lot of people in that house but they sure aren't short on money. Ok, so my questions above are still valid. My co-worker wants exact examples of how much money a woman in the above

  • Answer:

Get a job and try and find a friend or family member who will watch the baby before resorting to assistance..(besides, I think going on Assistance takes a while to qualify for). And next time you have sex please use protection if you dont plan on staying with the father.

How do you know she has tried to get child support, have you seen the case file? She may not know who the father(s) is or she is getting cash from them so that she does not have to declare it to anyone, especially welfare. http://squidoo.com/Children-Of-Separated-Parents#module104735811
