Which classes do I take to become a dermatologist?

I'm pretty sure I want to be a dermatologist, but what exactly do I need?

  • I know you need bio, chem, physics, calc. I've already taken the smaller steps in bio, chem, and physics so I have a pretty good idea about what would be going on in class. I am currently in AP Calc, would i have to take calc 2?? i know i will have med school and resident thing lol. But like, from anyone who knows for sure, or is a dermatologist...WHAT CLASSES DID YOU SPECIFICALLY TAKE EACH YEAR OF COLLEGE. I want to know it all. Tell me if it was like bio 101, bio 102, whatever! lol I just want to know how many of each class i would have to take. AND What exactly is going on in med school. Like, what am i learning?? More science? math? What?? please give me the details! I would really love to do this, plus this is the only career in which i could be successful and still start my family as early as i want to, and not have to worry about crazy people and babies, when i want children of my own. I know that I probably won't become an official dermatologist until I am around 30 years old, but I may jump start and take some classes during the summers. But please please! GIVE ME ALL THE DETAILS! How many of everything do i have to take, how many test. I know there is something called an MCAT?? tell me about that. PLEASE! lol This is my future and I really don't want to screw it up. I want to be able to do school, but still have a life. By the time I am ready to get married I'll be in med school. I refuse to put my future on the line. My future husband...say nothing.... I am very serious(lol) ...is ready to support me and our family and I know my parents are more than willing to help me as long as I'm in school. That was a little TMI but please. Just inform me...please and thank you soo much for taking the time to do this(: I am incredibly grateful(in advance)

The links above have good info. Just know that there are still crazy people and babies in the dermatologist office. And pus and fingernails and odors and scabies. You can also help people a lot by making them comfortable and reassuring them that they don't have cancer or taking a cancer off. Dermatology residency is hard to get into and what ever classes you take, you have to have top grades. It helps to develop a relationship with a dermatologist to learn some about it and show that you know what you are getting into. Get a dermatology rotation in med school as well. You really want a jump start? See the Medical Student Core Curriculum on the AAD's website.

There's a small core of classes. The requirements for most med schools are similar to the ones at the first link. An example med school curriculum is at the second link. You can find out everything you need to know by looking at the information provided online by various medical schools.
