What do you call the glasses wore by near-sighted people?

Do I need to wear my glasses full time?

  • So I just got glasses (Actually, my third pair. First ones I wore occasionally, then second ones were kind of terrible and didn't fit right so I only wore them driving.). These are okay, but I don't really like wearing glasses. I need to wear them while driving, and I also wear them when I really can't see. I'm 17, by the way. Contacts/ laser is out of the question for now. I thought that was fine, and the doctor made it sound like that was fine too. When I went to pick them up, however, the person who helped me pick out glasses was fitting them for me and said "Just make sure these are incredibly comfortable, like you can barely feel them on your face, since they're sitting there all day." When I said I wasn't wearing them full-time, he seemed shocked. "Really? Your prescription's actually pretty high! Do you bump into things?" I don't! But I was thinking about it, and I was with my friend, who's worn glasses for about 6 years or so, full time. I assumed her eyes were terrible and mine were okay, so I asked if I could see her glasses. Her prescription is less than mine, by at least a little bit. Like I could see, but there was a slight fuzz over everything. She said "Wow, you're like blind! I can barely see from these, and I thought my eyes sucked!" My prescription is: OD: -3.50 -1.00 180 OS: -3.00 -1.25 180 Is that bad? Should I be wearing glasses full time? Is that past the average level were people wear glasses full time?

  • Answer:

one of my eyes is about the same as yours and I'm pretty blind. but it really is a choice whether you want to wear them or not. if you can function normally and not have to wear them all the time, then go for it! nothing bad will happen if you don't.
