Why do I wake up with headaches every morning?

I've seen quite a bit of posts about this but I'm still hoping someone out there will have new information. The headaches started around 4 years ago when I was 27. A few things changed in my life during this time. I moved to a new place that I loved, I gained about 30 pounds and I also got new pillows for my bed. I had gotten a sleep study done and found out that I have slight sleep apnea, just recently I've had my tonsils removed and a deviated septum repaired which I was told could have been contributing to my sleep apnea. My sleep apnea was not severe enough to have a machine. I also know that I have TMJ but I've had that for years and the headaches only just started 4 years ago. Over the past couple of months I've lost 20 pounds, I have rearranged my pillows and my tonsils are gone but I'm still having this problem with waking up with headaches. Some mornings I'm so frustrated I just want to cry. The headaches most of the time go away after a while and sometimes they stick with me all day. I have no motivation to do anything. When I'm at home I don't want to cook or clean which are things I use to do with no problem. On the weekends I sleep in and and when I wake up I just lay around the house. My kids want to play with me and go and do things but I have no desire to do anything at all. I wake up and I get anxiety about going to work. While at work sometimes I'm really stressed out or depressed. I feel overwhelmed a lot of the time. I feel like my life is slowly being drained out of me and I have no desire to do anything at all. I'm so tired of feeling like this but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg trying to figure out what it is. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to fill me in. I know that a lot of people might think it's depression and I'm sure that's part of it, my life is hectic and my husband and I have fights sometimes. But, I do want to do things, I've always been the type of person to be on the go all of the time and go out and have fun. Not only that, I've always been a top notch employee, volunteerig all of the time to work more hours. That is until these headaches started. I feel like I'm not the same person anymore, I don't know what to do.

Sounds like you are on the right track to eliminate a sleep disorder. Do you remember if your sleep study report showed your oxygen fluctuations? If these are dipping too low and for too long, this could give you Morning headaches.. A quick way to eliminate this factor is to have an overnight pulse-oximiter test done. It will tell you if your oxygen is getting too low. You could also talk to a friend that happens to be a respiratory therapist of a nurse, see if you can borrow a portable pulse-ox. Or you can buy one on e-bay. I applaud you for loosing the weight. Now, measure your neck size...if it is 16.5" or more...you have some possible fat distribution issues. Even if your BMI is good...this accumulation of fat in your airway will cause it to either partially or fully collapse during your sleep.

Seriously sounds like depression or anxiety for me anxiety causes terrible headaches and the build up with the idea that you aren't doing anything makes it worse.... weight loss, lack of enjoyment with life this is sounding alot like depression I'm not psychologist but have always read up on a descent amount of literature in this subject. You really sound like the anxiety is actually the root cause of your depression. I suggest you go talk to a psychologist or neurologist. This is what helped me out and I'm sure it would help you.

Have you ever had your house checked for toxic mold? Especially in your bedroom area? Just one thought since it seem to be triggered by sleeping in that room. Have you given a try at sleeping in another room, just to see if it is something about your room or if it is sleeping in general that is the problem? My husband also has light sleep apnea (not bad enough for a machine). He has been using the Breathe Right nose strips at night and they have *really* helped him keep breathing all night. Definitely get the name brand ones - the generics do not stick as well or hold his airway open as well. Another thought is to get a mouth appliance for your jaw to hold it in the correct position to totally rule out TMJ involvment in your pain. I am sorry for your struggle. Our oldest daughter, age 27, has lived with non-stop head pain for 2 1/2 years. It's starting to get under control now, with seizure medication. Wishing you well.
