Can I add any of these fish to my tank?

Can i add more fish to my tank?

  • i have a male and female bn catfish both about 9cm, 4 male and 3 female guppies (yes, i know i need to get more females) the tank has plants, bogwood, breeding cave, hollow WWII plane, black gravel, 16 gal tank. my female guppies are having around 30 babies each each month. i sell them at 6 weeks old so sometimes my tank is overstocked and sometimes i have heaps of room. it is only ever overstocked for 2 weeks or less. so my question is can i add 4 1cm bn catfish?

If by bn catfish you are referring to a bristlenose pleco, then just 2 of them are already overstocking your 16 gallon, so no you should not add any more. Those fish get pretty big so just one should be in 20 gallons minimum, plus they are large waste producers. If you want to keep a groups of 3-4 of them then 30 gallons is the minimum size. Actually even just your 7 guppies alone fully stock that tank and overstock it when they breed. You are seriously overestimating the capacity of a 16 gallon. If anything you want to get rid of your female guppies, get rid of at least one of the bns, or upgrade your tank to something closer to a 40+ gallon if you want 6 bn catfish and at least 12 adult guppies plus the babies. I don't know how often you test your water, but I can imagine it isn't perfect at all, and adding more large heavy waste producing fish will not help, the fish won't stay 1 cm. Keep going like that and one day you'll have a serious ammonia spike and a tank full of dead fish.
