    Ok, so simplay make an account by pressing the guide button (the large X in mid of controller) and going down to create account. Once you have made it, press the guide button again and press 'join xbox live'. Note: to connect to xbox live have an active internet service provider and have an ethernet cable or have a wireless connector. The newest xbox has built in wifi. So after this go thru all the setup operations they give you, you will need to fill in billing info with credit card or paypal. They will never MAKE you purchase ANYTHING. If you skip all the options to buy like the gold memberships, you get 1 month of gold free. After that you will need to purchase those codes if you want to play online with friends.
