How many watts RMS for two subs?

Can you put a 500 watt rms amp on two 200 rms subs, so basically 500rms watts amp but subs are 400rms.. watts?

  • I want to put Kicker 10DX500.1 DX Series 500 Watt RMS amp on two MTX AUDIO 200W RMS 12" SINGLE 2-OHMS VEHICLE TERMINATOR SERIES LOUD SUBWOOFERs. Is that ok or would it blow due to the unbalanced power... also if you can think of any better subs or amp for cheaper please let me know, i have to get them into a nissan 350z as cheap as possible and apparently I shouldnt put a 15 in.. --ALSO if I can do 500, then could I do 1200? because that would be the most convenient. can you have too much power coming from an amp?

    Yes that would work. You can over power sub woofers by a bit. I'm glad you understand the concept of using rms wattage instead of "max or peak". You can use 4 AWG for the power wire and ground wire. 12 or 16 AWG for the speaker wire. You will need 2 channel RCA's and remote wire which can be any small AWG wire. Also for a bit more help, this is how you would wire those so they get the correct wattage. http://knowledge.sonicelectronix.com/tools/subwoofer-wiring/ type in 2 SVC 2 ohm subwoofers and select the chart with 1 ohm.
