How to start a computer repair business?

What business should I start to supplement my small computer repair business?

  • I run a small home based computer repair business repairing laptops and desktops computers in a rural part of Ireland. I would like to start up a second small business as the computer repair business can be seasonal. Basically very busy over winter and very slow over the summer. I also supplement my computer repair business by doing some web and graphic design. I would like the 2nd business to be home based as well. I was thinking about getting into vinl graphics for signage and van's advertisments as I could operate this from my garage and there would be relatively low start up costs a signage printer and printing materials etc. Is this the right business to get into and if not what would be a better idea? Any advice would be greatly appriciated folks.

  • Answer:

Instead of focusing on opening an entirely new business, try adding on to what you already know. For instance, try re-selling an online backup service like Mozy or Carbonite. Or even anti-virus like AVG or Avast. Keeping in contact with your customers during those slow months are key, try adding a newsletter on your website and be sure to send out useful info for those slow months enticing customers to use your services. Not sure how it is in Ireland, but where I live, the hot months mean dead computers from dust build up :) I've got a few more tips on staying engaged with your customers at my website. Hope this info helps!
