What are my chances of getting into any UC?

What are my chances of getting into UC Berkeley or Cornell (engineering)?

  • With an ACT 32 and a 4.0/4.7 GPA (unweighted/weighted), what are my chances of getting accepted into UC Berkeley and Cornell for engineering (both out of state)? I know there are plenty of other factors, but I'm just curious about a rough ball-park, though applications are still quite a while away. I've heard that UCB has a heavy bias for in-state students.

Just based on these things, I'd say about a 50% chance for UC Berkeley and 40% for Cornell. I don't know where the above people get their information, but you're pretty average for a Cornell applicant and the only reason you're better than the average UC Berkeley applicant is because there's a lot of unqualified California students who just apply to every single UC, even when they can't get into any one except Merced. That being said, it's hard to provide a good estimate because it's not your grades or your test scores that will get you into either school, it's everything else that allows you to be more than just another smart kid and which enables you to try and diversify from everyone else. Also, UC's actually prefer out-of-state students these days because you pay more in tuition than in-state students, and since they have such a lack of funds, more is better (I would know, I'm a CA student).

Lol are you serious? They'll be crazy not to accept you! Make sure you get a good scholarship because schools these days give you less than what you are supposed to receive. I had to make my Universty give me more money. I now have 6,000 extra cash to spend on books and whatever else.

You'll most likely get in. Over 30 ACT score and over 3.5 GPA would most likely get in, and you're above both. If the application gives you a spot for an essay, do it regardless of if it's optional or not.

Excellent, assuming your classes were challenging (and mostly honors/APs) and you meet the admissions requirements for a UC school (got that performing/visual arts credit?).
