What are biotic and abiotic factors?

What are biotic and abiotic factors?

  • Answer:

This is an ecosystem question. Abiotic factors are non-living chemical or physical properties of the environment, such as air, water, the kind of area you're in (desert vs seashore for example), the chemical and physical conditions around us. Biotic factors simply mean living organisms and their role in the ecosystem. Abiotic factors can exist without biotic factors, but biotic factors are dependent on abiotic factors. The conditions of where living organisms are help to determine their physical traits by natural selection. Polar bears are white because nature selected the white coat to help them survive in their environment. The white coat gives them protective coloration so they blend into the environment better, and it also helps them hunt because the prey can't see them as well. The north pole would be there, bears or not, so it is the biotic factor..the bears..who have been affected by the abiotic factors of snow and ice and the general environment of the north pole. If we pollute the oceans of the world to the point where life is untenable, most of the world's photosynthesis would stop because algae in the shallow depths of the ocean provide most of the oxygen in our atmosphere. These are a few of thousands of examples of biotic and abiotic interactions. biotic factors are the living factors. while abiotic are non living factors abiotic factors include soil, temperature, light, water etc.. biotic factors are plants and animals
