How to get rid of keylogger on my PC?

Keylogger on my computer?

  • I believe I have a keylogger on my computer and it's really getting scary. My gmail account kept warning me that people from different countries were accessing my account (China IP addresses) so I set it up so gmail sends me a text msg with a code you have to punch in to log on my gmail account and set my own PC as the only trusted computer. Afterwards I changed my gmail account from my android smart phone just incase there was a keylogger on the PC. I can't tell if anybody is still accessing my email. I'm not getting warnings anymore but my phone gets random texts from google all the time and I hadn't tried to log into my account so I figured it was someone else. But I assumed they weren't able to get in cause of the text msg authentication. My WoW account was recently hacked and that's why I went through and changed my gmail account to send the text in the first place. Today I went through the process of calling up blizzard and having my account restored and about an hour after everything got fixed I got another email saying my password was changed and 10 minutes after that another email saying they suspect my account was compromised again and they temporarily deactivated the account to prevent unauthorized use. I have no idea how this is happening. So far thankfully it only seems to be my email and WoW account being affected. Nothing has happened to my credit card or online banking. Not even any of the other MMO's that I occasionally play. I've updated/scanned with Avast AntiVirus Malware Bytes and Spybot S&D. I also used Bitdefender free online virus scanner. Avast Malware and Bitdefender all found nothing. Spybot found a couple things but nothing that seemed serious. Does anyone have any idea how I could get rid of this? I'm working on backing up everything I need to a 1tb external HD and preparing for the worst (Formatting HD) but would like to avoid that if I can. Another quick question. I currently have a 1tb HD in my comp and a second 370gb I use for mostly music/movies. If I format my main 1tb drive and reinstall fresh OS on it am I going to be completely safe? Is there any chance that the keylogger is stored on the 2nd hard drive and could resurface after a fresh install? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Answer:

First, you've got a good base of malware/spyware programs there. Also get superantispyware. Install SAS, then reboot in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during the initial splash screen. Once in Safe Mode, choose with Networking. Now, update SAS. MBAM, BD, SB and run each of them.

Not

Use onscreen keyboard to bypass keyboard hooks. And I would throw an authenticator on your WoW account, did that the first time I got hacked and nothing else has happened since (been about a year).

You have not mentioned whether your PC was being used by another person and is related to you. Key logger can also be used as a useful thing to know which website is being visited by the person using the PC. They can also find out you password and username. It seems you do lots of online banking and believe me bank's website are so secure ordinary key logger would get your passwords or your pin-number. You can try the step below: In order to log into Email or somewhere secure and password protected, there is one way to get around the keylogger: In order to log into Email or somewhere secure and password protected, there is one way to get around the keylogger: Click on Start -> Go to All Programs -> Click onAccessories -> Select Accessibility ->Click on On-Screen Keyboard. OR you can install Spyware Doctor, which will find installed key logger and it has capacities of detecting and removing key loggers.

I didn't read the post, but here is a link you should have a look at: http://wskills.blogspot.com/2007/01/how-to-find-fight-keyloggers.html Make sure file sharing, and remote desktop are disabled. Log into your router, update the firmware, and password protect it (if your on wireless)
