How do you uninstall a plugin?

How can I get rid of this plugin?

  • I started having issues with Google Chrome today. Whenever I would navigate to a new page, I would get an error message stating "internet connection interrupted." If I refreshed the page it would usually load normally. I checked my connection and found no problems there. My downloads have been continuing at a normal speed. I found that this problem could be caused by browser add-ons, but I didn't see any new ones. Then I clicked on the "background pages" tab and noticed a plugin called "gacela" running. I have never installed gacela before, and when I ended the service, my browsing went fine for a few minutes. When I started having problems, I found that gacela had restarted. This plugin does not show up under my list of extensions, and I ran a search and found no files on my computer called gacela. I found the company's website and it is supposed to be a market research program. They have a link for an uninstall tool, but the link is dead. What can I do to get rid of this awful thing that doesn't show up anywhere?

  • Answer:

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program. See if you find any program that is not familiar to you that may be s related to the gacela plug-in. If there's none, scan your computer for malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free After that, reset your Google Chrome. Exit Google Chrome and open Windows Explorer. For Windows XP, in the Address box, type the following and press enter: %USERPROFILE% \ Local Settings \ Application Data \ Google \ Chrome \ Application Remove the SPACEs before and after the "\". I put them there because Y!A cuts off long words here. Or go to C: > Documents and Settings > YourUserName > Local Settings > Application Data > Google > Chrome > Application Delete the zero byte file named "First Run". For Windows Vista or 7, in the Address box, type the following and press enter: %LOCALAPPDATA% \ Google \ Chrome \ Application Remove the SPACEs before and after the "\". I put them there because Y!A cuts off long words here. Or go to C: > Users > YourUserName > AppData > Local > Google > Chrome > Application Delete the zero byte file named "First Run".

Go to about:plugins in your OmniBar and find the File name field of the plugin you want to remove. Search your system for that filename, and delete it. If it's installed by an extension (ie. located in something like Default/Extensions/caehdcpeofiiigpdhbabn… just uninstall that extension from chrome://extensions/
