How do I run a fast mile?

How to run a fast mile?!?

  • I run a nine minute mile on track and trail, during lacrosse and field hockey season. I'm thirteen, female and want to play as I get older. I know I need to be faster, I think if I really, really, really push myself I can run a 7-8 minute mile. When I'm in high school I want to try and run a 6 minute mile. Any tips or suggestions? I have girls on my team completing 7-6 minute miles. Additional info: I never stop to walk. I do occasionally cramp My form is so-so

It's great that you don't stop to walk! For cramps, eat bananas, apricots, and other foods high in potassium. OH and don't forget to stretch like every part of the body. For the form, here's an amazing website http://www.runnersworld.com/subtopic/0,7123,s6-238-267-268-0,00.html To improve your mile, you need endurance, speed, and practice. You should be practicing at least 4 days a week if you want to see some results soon. This is an example of a workout: Day 1: 1.5 mile run Day 2: Sprints (Ladders: 100m, 200m, 400m, 200m, 100m) Day 3: 1.5 mile run Day 4: Ladders: 400m, 800m, 1600m, 800m, 400m Day 5: 1.5 mile easy jog Day 6: 1 mile run timed You can remove Day 5 if you don't have time to run. Good luck and I hope this helped!

3 words.....practice, practice, practice. First, your body needs to be conditioned to be able to run for distance, hence the "practice". When running the mile you have to pace yourself. The slowest you can run when running the mile is a light jog. You will slow down a little but you will have your school and friends cheering you on when you pass the finish line at the track meets. That's all I got.
