What are the pros and cons of becoming a teacher?

  • I'm a 2nd semester junior in college, and I'm starting to feel like my previous career goals might not be right for me. Something that has interested me for a while is the thought of becoming a high school teacher. I enjoy every subject and think that I would enjoy a job like this. I'm just wondering what the pros and cons of becoming a teacher are, and what subjects are in need of teachers? Thanks in advance.

    Pros: Pension when you retire, Summers off (Unless you want to help with a summer school.) Con: You may not like your students. Science and Mathematics would probably be the most looked for.

My advice is to become a substitute teacher at the high school level and see what subjects interest you most. It will also help with classroom management. Right now teaching is under scrutiny but don't let that hold you back. Teaching can be very rewarding. There can be many benefits though not necessarily monetary ones.
