Can I take courses outside of my current major?

Can you take university courses that have nothing to do with your major?

  • I'm interested in anthropology and sociology, journalism and creative writing. So, it's really hard for me to just choose one as a major. Can you major in one to test it out, and then take other classes on the side for free just to get a feel for what they're like? Like, the teacher doesn't grade you in the courses, or it's just a pass or fail type thing, and you just show up and listen for the sake of aquiring new knowledge?

  • Answer:

You could always take a class before you start the major just to test it out. Some colleges allow pass fail others will have only grades. You can still take the class and if you don't like then the chances are it will just get counted as an elective course that is nonmajor related.
