I need slight help with filling out the FAFSA.

Need help filling out FAFSA?

  • I'm a little ways into it now, and I've reached the question: (I think Q #36) "Enter the amount of your income tax for 2011." I did tick a box, saying I "will file" 2011 taxes, but I am still required to answer that question. I haven't gotten my taxes done yet, BUT I do know that $1625 was taken out of my check, and I will owe $429 federal, and $146 to the state of Colorado. (My taxes were prepared already, but couldn't be submitted yet because I didn't have all the money H&R Block wanted :p) Is the answer to this question just the total of all 3 numbers? Please Help! :D Thanks I don't have the completed tax forms available - just my W2. @Kyle Busch... - I already submitted it with that box ticked. Do I need to go back and edit after I get my taxes filed? Or will it be auto updated for me? If I have to edit, how do I go about doing that. @Nancy, I may not have been clear about this but I would owe an additional $429, & would not be receiving a refund

  • Answer:

No, you would use just the $429 that you actually paid (or will pay) in federal tax. You do not have to include state tax. You don't use the $1625 because even though that amount may have been withheld, you didn't owe that much and the difference is going to be refunded to you.
