Pros and cons of Hawaii becoming its own independent nation?

Answer:
I think the pros are that many people who support Hawaii becoming independent would be extremely happy. And I do feel very sorry for these people, because their government was overthrown by the U.S. This would probably mean that the descendants of the ali'i (the monarchs) would have power again most likely. The cons would be that Hawaii won't be supported by the government anymore, and we do rely heavily on the government, meaning that the state might go bankrupt or something. Financially we probably wouldn't do that well. Tourism would also go down since we get many tourists from the U.S. mainland, and they would need a passport to come here if we chose to separate from the U.S. I wonder what would happen to President Obama if Hawaii suddenly became a non-U.S. state...?

Hawaii has the highest percentage of the population living under government subsidies. No other state even comes close. Should they become their own state all these federal government funds would cease, and those addicted to government support would face a rather abrupt wake-up call. On the other side, they could make it difficult for tourists to visit the Islands. Or require a Passport and charge a significant fee for the privilege of vacationing there.
