Is it hard to be a music producer?

Can i get a Music Engineer Job If I Major In Music Producer?

  • Answer:

In depends on a couple of things. In our world of technology there's a lot of talent who self produce their music. As an audio engineer you would be using machinery and equipment to record, synchronize, mix or reproduce music, voices, or sound effects. You can work in the movie, music recording, theater or video game industries. Audio engineers may also be called sound engineering technicians, recording engineers or sound engineers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that this field will experience job growth that is slower than the average for all occupations through 2018. Again I believe to be expected with the advancement in audio recording technology. As of 2009 the average earnings for audio engineers were $46,370.

Maybe It depends on how good your "ears" are for music. (some have it, some don't) leaning how to plays a lot of instruments helps, but is now always necessary, it you have enough talent. It also has a lot to do with who you know, and how you can "hang" (communicate) with the musicians and bands. Everything to do with music, is an art, it's not math. (maybe a little?) The rules in music, seem to change every year now. all the pirates stealing music, are making it hard for the studios and producers. edit Rick gave a very good answer, piracy is killing the music business. Remember, his "average wage," includes the better paid producers/engineers, that have have 20 years or more experience, and a lot of contacs. They did NOT start our at that pay scale. The best paid producer, that I know in Nashville now, started out as a sound tech, them sound engineer, for the country rock band "Poco", worked as a gofer in Nashville studios for year, when the band was off the road. then caught a break, and produced the first 2 albums, by one of Nashville's best know female artists. He now has a multimillion dollar home, just outside of Nashville, with a million dollar studio in his house. He started out, playing years on the rad, as a bass player, first. Cool guy, when I was still working in the business a lot, we talked several times a years, we still stay in tough, though email, but it's hard, he is so busy working, it's hard to sit down and talk much, on the net. So, you need a LOT of talent, luck, experience, and work. And then, you need good friends in the right places. I've spent years, doing short tours, with full time offers, I prefer to live at home.
