Best spots in the United States?
-
I am taking an adventure across the U.S. and I would like to stop and see the greatest places in the different states. I have looked up the top 100 websites and stuff like that but I want to hear from people in the states and get their own opinion. A website can tell me stuff but hearing from others would help make this more fun. So what do you think Best spot you can think of in your own state or in one you have visited!

Answer:
depends on what your interests are, so you will get a variation on these top 10 lists I am gonna list a bunch of places that can cater to many people, most will be large cities that you can also use as a base to explore the hinterland (nearly all have tour buses if you don't to drive) in no particular order: Boston New York City San Francisco Washington DC Las Vegas South Florida Seattle Cape Cod

In Michigan Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore along Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan has a beautiful shore line. In the U.P Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore along Lake Superior the boat cruise is a must. and The porcupine Mountain also known as Lake of the Clouds. , Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was named the "Most Beautiful Place in America" on ABC's Good Morning America. Watch as the winner was announced live on television in, "Most Beautiful Place in America Revealed!" there are over 120 waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula. http://www.google.com/search?q=lake+of+the+clouds+porcupine+mountains&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=mGd&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=LExzT5mOAcXAtgf9mfWNBg&ved=0CEcQsAQ&biw=1680&bih=885 http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=lake%20of%20the%20clouds%20porcupine%20mountains&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDgQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fporcupinemountains.com%2F&ei=LExzT5mOAcXAtgf9mfWNBg&usg=AFQjCNG2xMmXQEu2bLQi1YPXTYC-HSW-3w&cad=rja

I'll list all the places I've personally lived. Colorado - go to Rocky Mountain National Park (near Estes Park). In RMNP is a road called Trail Ridge, it's the highest paved road in the US. At it's highest point it's over 12,000 feet elevation, you can see bleeping Kansas from up there. Aspen area is nice, so is the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and driving Independence Pass is something everyone should do once in their life. Arizona - lots of must see's in Arizona, but the Grand Canyon is #1. Honorable mention goes to Sedona & Superstitious Mountains west of Phoenix. Technically in Nevada, but Hoover Dam and Las Vegas are a must see too. Washington State - Olympic National Park, in particular the Ho National forest. California - another state with a ton of stuff. San Francisco would be my number 1, followed by Lake Tahoe, Redwood forests (north west of SF), coastal route from Eureka to San Diego, Santa Cruz, Death Valley, Joshua Tree forest, Mojave. Indiana - Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Maine - Any of the coastal parts, but specifically Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor area. Maine to me would be more about eating - get a lobster roll at Reds Eats. New Hampshire - in the summer - go to far northern NH - area called the Northern Kingdom. Canoe on Lake Unbagog (near Errol, NH). By doing this you get a taste of the interior of Maine too. Odds are you will see moose, loons, maybe a bear. Massachusetts - Boston, in particular the North End on a hot summer night and a summer game Fenway Park. Also, Cape Cod. Traveled to: New York - Obviously Manhattan, but I highly recommend the Adirondack region, it's the best kept secret in the US (my opinion). Lake Placid & Lake George being the two primary destinations. New Jersey - the Jersey shore, in particular Cape May. L.O.V.E. Cape May. Alaska - Inside passage from Ketchikan to Skagway via cruise ship. (I've traveled all over Alaska, the SE passage is the best part). Wyoming - NW corner - Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons. Florida - Key West, the rest of Florida has no redeeming value unless you have blue hair or are Cuban. I highly recommend tripadvisor.com for getting inside tips on places you go to. I've personally had good luck with the "attractions" recommendations off that web site.
