Direct Deposit in old overdrawn account - will bank take money.?
-
Hello. I am working at a temporary agency. Unbeknowst to me I worked at this same temp agency in 2003, and had direct depoisit set up. Instead of mailing me the check (which I requested) they direct deposited into an old overdrawn account. The bank account was closed in 2004 becasue of an overdraft. Will I receive the money? Or will the bank take it? I have since changed to paper checks...but have I lost my first weeks pay? Will the bank kick out and reject the deposit, or will they take it? Anyone know the answer. Please spare me the morality judgments I just want to know if I will eventually get my money. I still owe the bank money I never paid it. But it is a debt from nine years ago on a closed account.

Answer:
Congratulations. You just made a payment against what you owe the bank. You didn't 'lose' the first week's pay. You USED it to pay some of your DEBT. If the deposit happens to be more than you owe, the bank will send a check for the balance to your last known address.

Did the bank accept the direct deposit? Then don't expect the money. They picked up on your name and saw you owed money. Did the bank reject the direct deposit? Then your temp agency will get it back, and you will get a paper check.
Go with the flow
The bank keeps the money. Just because you have not paid off what you owe does not mean the debt went away. Check your credit report.
